DEIB

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) are more than values—they are essential to effective care. Athletes and clinicians come from a wide range of cultural, racial, gender, socioeconomic, and neurodiverse backgrounds, and each brings unique strengths, challenges, and lived experiences. By centering DEIB in our work, we ensure that every athlete and clinician is seen, respected, and supported.

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging

Mission:  CCSPA DEIB seeks to make clinical/counseling sport psychology a more welcoming, inclusive, and liberating space for athletes and stakeholders by centering and uplifting the voices and experiences of individuals from historically marginalized communities (e.g., BIPOC, LGBTQ+, immigrant, low-SES identities). We aim for CCSPA to be a leader in advocacy, advancing equity and systemic change across the sport psychology profession and the broader sport ecosystem.

Focus Areas

CCSPA is dedicated to advocacy and meaningful engagement that fosters long-term professional growth and equity within sport psychology. This focus area promotes opportunities to support current professionals while strengthening the pipeline for pre-professionals seeking entry into the field. A central priority is outreach to students and professionals from historically excluded and underrepresented populations and Minority Serving Institutions. When feasible, in-person engagement at conferences and community events is encouraged to build authentic relationships, raise awareness, and advance inclusion across the profession.

Outreach & Advocacy - Increase Awareness

Research - Data-Driven Support

The Research Focus Area is committed to advancing DEI-informed research that addresses the needs of the populations we serve. We support the CCSPA Board and organization by guiding DEI-related presentations and research initiatives, identifying key themes and experts to share knowledge with our community, and highlighting areas within the field that would benefit from a culturally informed lens or perspective shift.

Education and Training - Increase Knowledge, Competence, and Skills

We work to expand the knowledge, competency, and skills of individuals who are providing services to diverse groups of athletes. We seek to support graduate students in locating opportunities to receive specialized training with athletes, groups, or teams. Relevant guidance, mentorship, and supervision can be challenging to identify when seeking entry to the field of sport psychology, and this subcommittee aims to address these challenges. The subcommittee also is involved in engaging current professionals and the CCSPA organization in continuing education presentations and opportunities around diversity, education, and inclusion related topics.
